About Rhythm and Cello

Rhythm and Cello is a Vancouver duo that blends high energy rhythm of the acoustic guitar with the versatility of the seductive cello.

Stephanie Glegg‘s cello melodies, harmonies, bass lines, fills and solos complement John Welsh‘s original songs beautifully, and bring a range of crowd-favourite cover tunes to life, while leaving space for the duo’s rich vocal harmonies.

Come ready to expect reggae (yes, reggae), Latin, folk and rock music, and maybe even a little Celtic or country. Our goal is to move you from your chair to the dance floor by the end of the set. Come on out and let us change the way you think about the cello!

About The Kwerks

Making the Top 10 in CBC’s Searchlight Competition two years in a row, The Kwerks are riding a tidal wave of momentum as they emerge from the studio with their 3rd EP, Bigger Badder Dreams.

Laura Koch captivates with her standout voice and lays the groundwork on guitar. Ryan Koch harmonizes beautifully, while moving to the music in ways vaguely reminiscent of Elaine Benes (Seinfeld). The full band is rounded out by Gregg Porter (mandolin/banjo), Jay Rennicks (electric guitar), Jonathan Perkins (bass) and Tim Dyck (drums, percussion).

Entertaining stories, eclectic dance moves, and enchanting tunes will make you groove, laugh and maybe even shed a few tears. But you’ll leave with a bounce in your step and a smile on your face, already waiting for their next show.

About The Railyard

The Railyard is a hotbed of local musical talent, located in Mission, BC. Hosted by SeaWest Entertainment, the licensed performance space features state of the art sound and lighting. Also, the venue boasts 38 consecutive sellouts! So buy your tickets in advance to ensure you have a seat at the stage!

Phoenix party: Rise from the Ashes

Rhythm and Cello is proud to announce that we will be among the many live acts performing at this year’s Phoenix party!

Phoenix Party: The Theme

The theme of the party is Phoenix: Rise from the Ashes. Party guests are invited to come dressed as anyone who no longer walks the Earth/Middle Earth/Hosnian system, etc. Characters may be real (e.g. Bowie), fictional (e.g. Boromir), or figurative (American democracy?). The idea is to fuel the rebirth of their legacies, stories, or memories about them.

Entertainment Line-up

Rhythm and Cello will join other musicians, including Tony O’Hara, Ivory and Wood and The Kwerks, as well as a special appearance by Adrienne Smith, who will join sister Stephanie on stage for an a cappella performance. All music has been selected with the Phoenix theme in mind. Think Bowie, Johnny Cash, the Beatles, MJ, Leonard Cohen, etc., and some  movie soundtrack favourites as well!

To complement the music, a strong line-up of slam poets will take the stage to share their magic, in keeping with the theme.

Testimonial from the Winery

Backyard Vineyards had the pleasure of showcasing Rhythm and Cello – both John and Stephanie had the place alive with their eclectic toe tapping music. Everything from CCR and the Beatles to passionate Latin renditions  – the crowd did not want them to leave. A great atmosphere to be had by all! We will definitely be having them back again.
