Rhythm and Cello will be opening for headliners The Kwerks on April 7th at The Railyard in Mission, BC, to kick off our spring schedule! We are really looking forward to taking the stage, after a few months of private and corporate events. As a result, we miss our loyal fans and friends!
Rhythm and Cello is a Vancouver duo that blends high energy rhythm of the acoustic guitar with the versatility of the seductive cello.
Stephanie Glegg‘s cello melodies, harmonies, bass lines, fills and solos complement John Welsh‘s original songs beautifully, and bring a range of crowd-favourite cover tunes to life, while leaving space for the duo’s rich vocal harmonies.
Come ready to expect reggae (yes, reggae), Latin, folk and rock music, and maybe even a little Celtic or country. Our goal is to move you from your chair to the dance floor by the end of the set. Come on out and let us change the way you think about the cello!
Laura Koch captivates with her standout voice and lays the groundwork on guitar. Ryan Koch harmonizes beautifully, while moving to the music in ways vaguely reminiscent of Elaine Benes (Seinfeld). The full band is rounded out by Gregg Porter (mandolin/banjo), Jay Rennicks (electric guitar), Jonathan Perkins (bass) and Tim Dyck (drums, percussion).
Entertaining stories, eclectic dance moves, and enchanting tunes will make you groove, laugh and maybe even shed a few tears. But you’ll leave with a bounce in your step and a smile on your face, already waiting for their next show.

About the Envision Financial Coffee House and Concert in the Park Series
Soul, jazz, folk, the blues—it’s all music and it’s all free at local coffee houses during the Envision Financial Coffee House and Concert in the Park series. Since 2008, local musicians and small business have partnered together to bring the sound of music to Abbotsford coffee houses.
The popularity of the series continues to grow under the dedicated leadership of community partner Abbotsford Arts Council. Committed to making a difference in our community, the series will also support Envision Financial’s Full Cupboard program; several times throughout this year’s schedule we’ll invite concert goers to bring a non-perishable food item for the Abbotsford Food Bank. We’re not only showcasing amazing talent we’re tackling the issue of hunger in our community.
We’re thrilled to return to Sisto Pub in Mission, BC to host Open Mic night on Sunday, March 29th! If you’re in the Fraser Valley, we invite you out to share the stage, your talents, a pitcher or just your enthusiasm!
What to Expect at Open Mic Night
Rhythm and Cello will warm up the room with an opening set of original and cover tunes, and then we’ll open the stage to local talent (that’s you!), and round out the night with a final set or two, as time allows. No cover, great food, and the beer taps will be pouring all night!
Special thanks to the talented Jenny Bice, Sisto’s Open Mic coordinator and standing host, for offering us the host chair this week!
